LETTER OF INVITATION TO THE KACHIN GLOBAL DAY OF ACTION

You are cordially invited to a rally to protest against the resumption of civil war in Burma. This protest against the war is being held to demand that the Burmese military junta seeks a peaceful political resolution through dialogue rather than war. A similar protest will be held on the same day by Kachin people around the world. Please see contact details below for activities taking place worldwide.

As you will be aware, fighting has commenced between the Kachin Independence Army and the Burmese government forces in Kachin State, Burma, and this looks likely to be on-going. The fighting has already affected civilians in Kachin State in numerous ways. The fighting has forced thousands of local civilians to flee their homes and livelihoods to escape the fighting and avoid forced labour and other human rights abuses by the Burma Army. Since the fighting started, it is estimated that more than 10,000 civilians have had to seek shelter on the Sino-Burmese border; however, an even greater number of civilians has been displaced elsewhere, forced into local jungle as China has refused to accept our refugees. The number of refugees is increasing day by day.


We do not want a cease-fire, we want PEACE. We do not need kindness, we want JUSTICE. We do
not accept a forced referendum, we choose DEMOCRACY.
