Lajawn Ngan Seng and Other officials |
Burmese government’s officials led by Lajawn Ngan Seng held a meeting with local officials and Kachin religious leaders at 7 am on Sept 20.
Lajawn Ngan Seng explained about ongoing conflict between Burmese Army and KIA. He said Burmese government sent the same kind of letters to KIO, UWSA and Maila groups. He criticized that while both UWSA and Maila accepted government’s plan immediately, KIO was slow to act for a peace agreement.
Lajawn Ngan Seng mentioned that KIO should cooperate with Burmese government focusing on similarities and even Aung San Suu Kyi said that she is willing to be used for the good of country.
Lajawn Ngan Seng also said that the number of refugees is exaggerated to be over 20,000 while Burmese government and UN estimated about 5000. Ralief Action Network for IDP (RANIR), comprised of various Churches, NGOs and civil societies reported in its journal “Simsa Kasa” on Sept 2, 2011 that the number of refugees reached to 10624 in Laiza alone and there are many more in Myitkyina, Bamaw, Waing Maw and Maijayang.
Kachin Church leaders were also told to persuade KIO/A to sign a peace agreement with Burmese government. Lajawn Ngan Seng also warned that major military operations will be on the way if there is no peace agreement.
Concerning Malizup dam, He said it was federal government’s plan and nothing to do with Kachin State government and referred to read government’s newspaper for more information. Mr. Nyunt Aung, state finance department’s chief, also said Malizup dam will be beneficial for local Kachins and Kachin State as 7 bridges will be constructed in building Malizup dam.
